The VIP area for Virgin at the Isle of Wight Festival

We were asked to design, build and manage a prominent VIP area for Virgin Radio and BT as they were joint sponsors.

Virgin needed the ability to broadcast live from the festival as well as record band interviews; this required a full studio and large storage area in a very tight space. We were limited to a pre-built raised scaffold platform that was small but in a fantastic position just to the right of the main stage overlooking the crowd.  We wanted to give the guests the best experience possible and Virgin the technical facilities they needed whilst promoting both brands and keeping the whole production in line with the festivals heritage.

Our solution was to provide a marquee with a free bar by Hardrock Café and free local organic food by Taste of the Wight. The positioning of the marquee allowed us to provide a long external  balcony for the guests with an unobstructed view of the main stage.  The bespoke 7 meter long bar ran in a single piece both inside and outside. With the sides of the marquee made of glass panels and sliding doors we were able to extend the outside feeling in to the marquee enhanced by the use of bright brand colours and an Astro Turf flooring.

Outside adjacent to the marquee we stacked two sea containers – the base unit was a secure store and the top unit was a secure broadcast station with window overlooking the main stage and crowd. To hide the ugly structures and provide the best brand exposure possible we built a grass hill around the bottom container and planted the turf with the Virgin and BT logos in flowers.  We then built a scaled tube frame of a Bay window VW camper van and covered it with a full colour pvc cover and parked the van on the hill.
